Kate Zaharra restorāns atrodas kalnos, 10 minūšu braucienā no Bilbao centra, un jūs to, visticamāk, neatradīsiet nevienā no ceļvežiem. Tieši tādas vietas, ceļojot es mīlu apmeklēt visvairāk, vietējo iemīļotus restorānus un bārus, kas nav tūristu pārpildīti. Šis restorāns ir tieši tāds, vietējā publika, ļoti kvalitatīva virtuve, izcili vīni un laipna apkalpošana. Īsts gastronomiks piedzīvojums, ko papildina īpaša atmosfēra un Bilbao pilsētas panorāma. Skatieties paši!

EN – I think everyone who enjoys travelling will agree that even though internet is full of travelling guides, travel blogger tips and so on, following other people’s advice can’t guarantee that you will have your perfect night out in the unknown city. That’s why I’m so lucky to have good friends all over Europe, in beautiful cities that are worth going to. Friends know what you will enjoy the most  and will introduce you to all the hidden places that only locals know of.

One of the cities we were lucky to enjoy past few days was Bilbao – one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, the capital of Basque region and home of the biggest tourist attraction – Museo Guggenheim. Also a popular destination to food critics, Bilbao is a city praised for its superb restaurants, that are generously evaluated with Michelin stars.

Thanks to our host we got to experience this amazing restaurant. It may not be Michelin-starred or in the “top 10 list”, but it surely is a locals favourite and there are numerous reasons why. Its located in a beautiful spot up in the mountains, its not crowded with tourists and the food is really excellent. Restaurant has three floors – wine basement, and a terrace with a panoramic view to the city. We enjoyed it all – see more in pictures below!

We started our dinner with cheese and spanish ham assortments. And wine, of course. This freshly cut jamon iberico was the best ham I’ve ever had. I’m not the biggest expert of that, but any food melting in your mouth is always a good thing, right?:)

Red wine. Red dress.

After snacks we head upstairs to have the “real” thing. For meat lovers this is a dream come true. For me it was a bit shocking :)

Restaurant’s interior reminded me of a skiing chalet somewhere in Alps. Very dark, saturated color scheme, bricks and wooden beams, but altogether very cosy and home-style restaurant style.

Oh, yes, the gin! They have a huge variety of the highest quality gins as well. After dinner, we went upstairs to have drinks and end the night enjoying the most beautiful view of the city!
